Wine Review: This ruby colored Tempranillo from Oregon opens with rustic oak and black cherry like bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced and fruit forward. The flavor profile is a black cherry and mild black plum blend with a hint of black pepper. This is also a touch of gentle oak blended in throughout. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins stick around for quite some time. This wine would be perfect with a tangy pulled pork sandwich. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Our first vintage from Folin, this wine demonstrates the elegance and finesse this Spanish varietal achieves when unencumbered by excessive over-ripeness or manipulation. Good, dark ruby color with a beautiful nose of crushed blackberry, marionberry and bright, fresh fruit: candied cherry with orange peel marry with a touch of rose petal. With a very focused entry on the palate, the wine gives way to earth, and a purity of fruit expression lingering on the palate. Blackberry and marionberry flavors dominate, followed up with mole spiciness. Rich tannins give this wine texture and a velvety mouthfeel reminiscent of Tempranillo-based wines of the Rioja. With a great balance of fruit, tannin and acidity this wine is enjoyable now, yet the balance promises an even greater reward for those who can cellar a bottle or two! This wine would sing alongside dishes with mole, a little spice, and a little smoke.
