Wine Review: This pale straw-colored Chenin Blanc from Raats opens with a very fragrant faint grapefruit bouquet with hints of lemon verbena and cantaloupe. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, mouthwatering and pretty viscous. The flavor profile is a very tasty mineral influenced mild yellow grapefruit with notes of ginger, lime and green apple. I also detected a dash of white pepper towards the end. The finish is dry and refreshing. This very nice Chenin would be perfect with oysters or sushi. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Original Chenin is crafted without the use of any oak in order to preserve the wine’s “original,” vibrant fresh fruit character. The 2018 is a textbook example of old vine Chenin Blanc grown in very specific soil types. Bursting with fresh fruit flavors, this vibrant wine displays a distinctive yellow apple and pineapple core, alongside notes of green melon and limes. The wine reveals zesty citrus flavors and a long mineral finish.
