Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Cabernet Franc from South Africa opens with a cedar, Slim Jim and black cherry bouquet. On the palate, with wine is medium bodied, balanced, and smooth. The flavor profile is a strong mineral and oak influenced plum and black olive blend. I also detected hints of black cherry, black currant and black tea. The finish is dry and its very dusty tannins that stick around for a very long time. This wine has rustic flavors, yet a refined palate. I would decant this Cab Franc in the near term and serve it with hearty meals like shepherd's pie or beef bourguignon. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: The nose entices with its perfume and a garrigue character of Cape fynbos, rosemary, lavender and thyme with spicy notes of nutmeg, cloves and star anise. Intense brooding blackberry fruit, graphite and a streak of minerality add to the complexity of the nose.
