Wine Review: This slightly opaque and dark red colored Cabernet Franc from South Africa opens with a smoky beef stick and campfire bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced and savory. The flavor profile is a cedar plank and strawberry blend with notes of minerality and green pepper. I also detected some plum and red berry mixed in as well. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins stick around and linger for quite some time. This Cab France will pair nicely with a cast iron fried skirt steak with shallot butter. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The nose entices with its perfume and a garrigue character of Cape fynbos, rosemary, lavender and thyme. Succulent blackberry fruit pairs with spicy notes of nutmeg, cloves and star anise. The palate is dominated by brambly dark berry fruit, black cherries and spice, with a lovely savory character and a streak of graphite. The palate is complex and layered, with silky, fine grained tannins, distinct minerality and mouthwatering acidity.
