Wine Review: Fans of well made South African reds are really going to like this Cab Franc from Raats. It is slightly opaque and dark ruby colored. It opens with an attractive mild cherry and wintergreen bouquet. There were also notes of gentle oak detected in the background. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, nicely balanced, and rather smooth. The flavor profile is a very tasty gentle oak infused plum with a hint of red currant. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins are pleasantly prolonged. This wine would be a perfect match for beef bourguignon. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: This sexy, über-elegant Cabernet Franc shows the stunning heights this grape can attain! It combines a core of luscious blackberry, black cherry and plum with expressive notes of licorice, tobacco, coffee and spice. Silky tannins caress the palate, and hints of dark chocolate, mineral and smoke come through on the long, supple finish.
