Wine Review: This opaque and dark ruby colored red blend from Portugal is a terrific value wine. It opens with a musty black raspberry bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, nicely balanced, and coats the mouth nicely. Its flavor profile is a very ripe black raspberry and blackberry blend with notes of minerality, red plum and mild oak. The finish is dry and mild tannins linger and stick around nicely. This wine is food friendly and would pair perfectly with a Memphis style pulled pork sandwich. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: 2011 is one of the best years to come from the Douro. This Red 2011 is similar in style to previous years but richer and more balanced. The wine has plenty of cherry and cassis fruit flavours on the nose, cedar and spice on the palate. There is a good brightness and freshness to the wine and plenty of complexity. The wine is perfect to drink with many different types of meals as it has a good equilibrium in tannins and acidity.
