Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Portugal red blend from Douro opens with pomegranate bouquet with a hint of red currant. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, super smooth and silky. The flavor profile is a tasty gentle oak infused black cherry with hints of nicely integrated mild minerality. I also detected a hint of plum and black licorice. The finish is dry and its well managed tannins are nicely prolonged. This wine would pair perfectly with veal medallions with sage, shiitake mushrooms, and Prosciutto. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The wine is very elegant and complex on the nose with well-defined aromas of raspberry and cherry and a touch of herbal undertones reminiscent of the Douro hills giving the wine certain freshness and vibrancy to it. The La Rosa 2010 is medium bodied with rounded tannins and an agreeable persistency coming from the wine’s balanced acidity. The 2010 has a good equilibrium where all aromas and flavours seem subtle and natural and in line with each other. The wine would be best served with red meats and more powerful dishes. It also goes well with cheese, especially the Serra cheese found in Portugal. It is a wine that can be drunk now or aged for up to 10 years.
