Wine Review: This pitch black colored Cabernet Sauvignon opens with a fragrant blackberry and black raspberry bouquet with a hint of coffee. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, acidic and juicy. The flavor profile is an espresso and ripe blackberry blend with notes of minerality, black licorice, spice and oak. I also detected a hint of cherry-chocolate cordial towards the end as well. The finish is dry and its fruit flavors and medium tannins linger for a while. This Cab would pair well with braised short ribs. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: The grapes for Back Forty are grown on low-yielding vines on a 40 acre, 1,100-foot elevation vineyard at the back side of Ferrari-Carano's RockRise Mountain in Alexander Valley. This wine has a delicious array of intense aromas of cassis, currants, toffee and leather, perfectly balanced with full and smooth flavors of jammy blueberry and boysenberry, and persistent black fruit on the finish.
