Wine Review: This lively sparkling wine from Sonoma County is a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc grapes. In the glass, it's a unique pale gold with a copper tint color, with a good amount of small streaming bubbles, and a vibrant nose of tangerine, apple peel, beeswax, lemon candy, and toasted almond. Luxurious persistent mousse on the palate, this wine is medium-minus bodied, moderately acidic, crisp, and bright. There is good balance and some tension. I found flavors of green apple, crushed shells, peach pit, and rhubarb. I also discovered some notes of lime zest, strawberry, and brioche. The finish is refreshing and long. A nice weekday sparkler, served chilled, with fried scallops. – Mark
Winemaker Notes: On the nose, intense aromas of fresh tangerine, pineapple, and pear, followed by toasted hazelnut and butterscotch. Medium bodied in style, the palate shows bright flavors of citrus, crisp green apple, with layers of mandarin, spice, brioche, and toasted nuts. The Piper Sonoma house style is focused on precision and attention to detail. Each wine displays a balance between fruit expression, complexity, and texture, to create wines that are immediately approachable and can further develop with bottle aging.
