Wine Review: I recently had a mini-tasting group try this Good value Shiraz based blend. It was well received and enjoyed. They also like the $12 bottle price. It is opaque and very dark purple colored. It opens with a fragrant ripe blackberry bouquet with notes of smoky oak. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, and very fruit forward. The flavor profile is a very ripe blackberry with notes of oak and black licorice. The finish is dry and its rich fruit frlavors continue to linger well after it is gone. This fruit bomb needs food with a lot of flavor. Pepper encrusted steak and kielbasa slices in Sweet Baby Ray's barbecue sauce were suggested. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: The 2008 Pillar Box Red has a dark colour and a vibrant purple hue, with aromas of fresh blueberry fruit, liquorice, dried mint and cinnamon oak undertones. The palate is dense and juicy, with flavours of fresh blackcurrant and cherry combined with aniseed, dried thyme and mocha oak characters. The wine is rich and full bodied, well balanced and seamless with soft, persistent tannins.
