Wine Review: This midnight purple colored Shiraz from Penfolds opens with a blueberry pie and menthol bouquet with hints of (red plum and toasted coconut. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, round, and smooth. The flavor profile is graphite and mild blackberry with notes of blueberry, chocolate, and black licorice. We also detected some hints of oak, black pepper and stone dust. The finish is dry and its flavors and dusty tannins drift away nicely. The Tasting Panel would pair this Shiraz with braised short ribs. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: As advertised! Full-bodied, rich, and generous. Lovely mocha, chocolate, espresso flavors. The confectioner provides black jellybean, licorice, chocolate truffles and rum and raisin. Very generous fruits fill an ample, plush mid-palate. A trip to the German cake shop: black forest cake, strudel, crème anglaise. Toasted fennel seeds and fresh tarragon. The acidity is juicy and energetic. Bold, attentive, structural graphite-like tannins hold the package together. The oak is completely absorbed, allowing the fruit to shine. The finish is long and fine, with a taught shale, mineral-like impression that lingers forever.
