Wine Review: This deep ruby colored Cabernet Sauvignon based blend from Penfolds opens with a menthol, dark chocolate, and coconut bouquet with hints of cigar box. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round and bright. The flavor profile is menthol and stony minerality blend with notes of marionberry and toasted coconut. We also detected hints of tea, black plum, and tobacco. The finish is dry, and its flavors and dusty tannins build-up and stick around for a very long time. The Tasting Panel would decant this Cab blend and then pair it with a ribeye steak. Enjoy – KWGTP.
Winemaker Notes: Cabernet Sauvignon (68%), Shiraz (32%). Cabernet fruits are first acknowledged - cranberries, raspberries, and goji berries. North African spices of cumin, paprika and Aleppo peppers. There is a beautiful core on the palate of red, blue, and black fruits. Fine talc-like tannins hold the expressive fruit in check, while soft acidity keeps everything in balance. Very approachable now but with the promise of more to come. Drinking well but will improve with time. Drink now - 2040.
