Wine Review: This deep purple colored Shiraz from Penfolds opens with a blackberry and boysenberry bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with plus acidity and has a soft mouthfeel. The flavor profile is a tangy red plum and oak blend with hints of cured meat, black cherry, spice drop and strawberry licorice at the very end. The finish is dry and flavors and acidity fade away nicely. I would pair this Shiraz with a lamb burger. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Deep dark cherry-red. Initially, plummy fruits meshed with sweet spices (predominantly cinnamon), almond appear on the nose. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with raspberry and chocolate flavors with a sprinkling of spice and cola. Its tannins are integrated and embedded, Supportive and not standing apart. No obtrusive oak flavors to speak of. The acidity is in tune with the wine’s weight and structure. Rest in bottle for a year or two. Drinking well now but will improve with time. Peak drinking 2022 – 2038.
