Wine Review: This opaque and midnight purple colored offering from Penfolds opens with a cassis, black licorice and Canada mint bouquet with a hint of lavender. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied, slightly acidic and juicy. The flavor profile is a blend of black cherry, sloe plum and boysenberry. We also detected notes of integrated fine minerality, gentle toasted oak and herbal tea mixed in. The finish is dry and its flavors and minerality drift away nicely. The Panel suggested pairing this Cab with beef tartare. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: Color: Garnet red
Nose: An aromatic umbrella sheltering all things cabernet. An immediate ascent of violet, mulberry leaf-laced with star anise, cinnamon, orange zest. Followed by varietal wafts of tomato ketchup, soy, iodine, and oddly, a Chinese spice.
Palate: Immediately more Tuscan than Bordeaux in Cabernet character. Nevertheless, still very (South) Australian. Savory, with a sour cherry grip and subtle cherry pip oak influence. Mouth-watering and succulent, yet still linear tempered by appetizing angular tannins. Darker fruits and green Spanish (stuffed) olive flavors further define the vintage, style.
