Wine Review: This very dark ruby colored Merlot from Pellet Estate opens with a black currant and red plum bouquet with hints of black cherry and violets. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, round, and fresh. The flavor profile is black cherry and red plum blend with notes of chalky minerality and red currant. We also detected some hints of tea and stony minerality. The finish is dry and its flavors, acidity and dusty fine tannins build-up and stick around for quite some time. The Tasting Panel would pair this Merlot with a New York strip steak or with a beef brisket pot roast. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: Our small block of Merlot yields some of the best we've encountered in the Valley, and beginning in 2014, we make around 300 bottles. This 2021 vintage is 50 cases. Depending on the vintage, then amount of Merlot we select for use in Henry’s Reserve and our Cabernet program, we might not bottle a Merlot every year. Our Merlot is typically very concentrated, deep in color, rich in flavor, often mistaken for a Cabernet. Our Merlot is made with inspiration from the great properties of the Right Bank in Bordeaux.
