Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Merlot from Long Island opens with a fragrant black cherry and leather blend with hints of cedar. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round and savory. The flavor profile is a crushed stone and black cherry blend with hints of blueberry and cedar. The finish is dry and its flavors and medium tannins drift away nicely. I would pair this North Fork Merlot with a cassoulet. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: The heart and soul of red wine on Long Island, the 2015 vintage illustrates why Merlot has been lauded by vineyard managers, winemakers, and critics alike. Structured and elegant, this Merlot is bursting with ripe aromas and flavors. Vanilla, toasted pine nuts and chocolate mint segue into plum jam, star anise and cinnamon leaving a long dynamic finish. Cellar aging will certainly be rewarded for at least 10 years to come.
