Wine Review: This straw yellow colored Viura from Spain opens with honey, clementine, and pear bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced and round. The flavor profile is a ginger and pear blend with notes of honey. I also detected hints of vanilla and lemon. The finish is dry and its flavors linger nicely for a while. This wine is food friendly and would pair well linguini with clam sauce. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The only white wine made by famed Spanish winemaker Alvaro Palacios at his family's Rioja property, Placet Valtomelloso is an estate-grown wine made in very limited quantities from the indigenous Spanish grape variety, Viura. Placet, meaning "pleasing," is light gold in color and contains attractive aromas of ripe pineapple and green mango. Made in a vintage qualified as "excellent" by the D.O.C. Rioja, the 2011 Placet is full-bodied, with balanced acidity and hints of lemon verbena, thyme, grapefruit rind and orchard fruit on the palate An outstanding wine, with an ‘endless’ finish, it is enjoyable both when served alone or with any kind of food.
