Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Merlot from Napa Valley opens with a red currant and cinnamon bouquet with hints of red cherry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round and very easy to drink. The flavor profile is a red plum and dried strawberry blend with notes of red licorice and green tea. I also detected hints of stony minerality and cinnamon. The finish is dry, and its flavors and mild tannins linger nicely. This Merlot would pair well with a grilled salmon burger. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: To naturally soften tannins and enhance varietal complexity, Tony allowed the grapes to undergo extended maceration. He then pressed the wine and transferred it to French oak barrels (45% new oak) to undergo a long malolactic fermentation for roundness and depth. Using Syrah and Zinfandel as blenders, adds a dark velvety feel to the lush berry flavor profile of the Merlot. Dense black fruit aromas are followed by boysenberry and chocolate flavors, and supple tannins on the palate.
