Wine Review: This golden colored dessert wine from Navarro was a big time hit a recent tasting I conducted. It opens with an intense rich apricot and honey bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, concentrated, and very rich. The flavor profile is a delicious ripe tangerine with notes of apricot and peach. The finish is pleasantly sweet and rather lengthy. This is a very special dessert wine the will fascinate your guests. It would pair perfectly with a custard tart topped with ripe fruit. Enjoy – Ken (Note Full bottles, 750 ml are available for $59)
Winemaker Notes: Only 7,100 bottles of this beauty were created so few will get to taste this exciting wine. Riesling’s ripe apple-peach flavors were fully developed by 23° Brix, then botrytis concentrates the sugars, acids and flavors by dehydration of the berries to 36° Brix. The real magic is that in addition to concentrating the grapes flavors by 50%, the noble rot overlays the Riesling fruit with flavors of pineapple, apricot and honey. Anderson Valley’s cold climate allows Riesling to ripen and still retain acidity, the element that keeps this wine bright and lingering.
