Wine Review: This slightly opaque dark ruby colored Zin opens with a faint black raspberry bouquet with a touch of oak. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, and very approachable. The flavor profile is a pleasant dark berry blend with a dash of black pepper mixed in. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins are gentle and linger a bit. Our group of tasters thought this Zin would pair well with roast beef with gravy or venison. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The oldest vineyards in Mendocino have traditionally occupied some of the best chilly sites so it's no surprise that the vineyards that produce Navarro's Zinfandel are some of the most sought after in the county. The grapes were fermented in open top fermentors and we punched down, just like the old timers, to keep the tannins supple. The fruit from these old vines tastes of blackberry and cassis, backed up by spice and vanilla from aging ten months in French oak barrels.
