Wine Review: This 2012 Murphy Goode is brick red in color and full bodied. The bold pleasing fruity berry bouquet includes blackberry, black pepper, oak, eucalyptus and lavender. The fruity berries of this Cab persist through to the palate along with blackberries, blueberries, dusty tannins, oak, and tobacco. The flavors are balanced and the structure is fine. The slightly ripe cherry finish is dry and extended. I would have this Cabernet Sauvignon with baby back ribs slathered in BBQ sauce. - Joe
Winemaker Notes: The 2012 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is grown in vineyards owned by one of my longtime friends Val Peline. This is one of my favorite vineyards in Alexander Valley and comes from 2 of his best blocks. The #4 Block is brooding and has flavors of blackberry, bay and thyme while the #1 Block has more black cherry and slightly softer tannins. This is a big wine that will age for years to come, but can be enjoyed in the near term as well due to its abundant, yet soft tannins. Serve it up with a bone-in rib eye rubbed with olive oil and sea salt hot off the grill.
