Wine Review: This very dark ruby colored Barbera from Michele Chiarlo opens with a blackberry and black cherry bouquet with notes of espresso and leather. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, dense and lively. The flavor profile is a cedar influenced extracted blackberry and stony minerality blend with notes of black tea and dried strawberry. I also detected hints of licorice and black pepper. The finish is dry with mouth drying tannins that stick around for a while. I would decant this Barbara before pairing it with grilled meat. A dry rubbed skirt steak comes to mind. Enjoy – Ken
