Wine Review: The brick red colored Barbaresco from Michele Chiarlo is excellent. It opens with a very inviting maraschino cherry and cedar bouquet with hints of rose petal, teaberry, and green tea. On the palate, this wine opens with is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, savory, and rich. The flavor profile is initially a slightly tart maraschino cherry and cedar blend with notes of green tea, red currant, and baking spice. I also detected hints of loam, black licorice, and a touch of Grand Marnier. These all meld together nicely with some aeration. The finish is dry, and its moderate tannins and flavors are nicely prolonged. So, I would decant this Barbaresco before pairing it with duck à l'orange. Enjoy - Ken
