Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Pinot Noir from Merry Edwards opens with a mulberry and black plum bouquet with hints of loam, mushrooms, Baker’s chocolate, and violets. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, fresh and dense for a Pinot. The flavor profile is graphite and spiced black plum blend with notes of blackberry tea and red cherry. We also detected hints of pomegranate, and cedar. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity and moderate tannins are nicely prolonged. The Tasting Panel would then pair this Pinot with a baked ham with pineapple and brown sugar glaze or crispy duck. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: Our 2021 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is a textbook example of the fine wines that come from grapes grown near our coastal boundaries. Cooling fog and our proximity to the Pacific Ocean allow fruit to ripen slowly and evenly. From a blend of clones, this graceful wine presents a floral, fruity profile with contrasting earthy undertones. This youthful and pretty wine offers notes of sandalwood, black tea, and dried rose petals, along with savory spice and a dusting of cocoa. Silky and tightly knit tannins marry with bright acidity leading into a palate with layers of forest floor, dark berries and plum. The finish is refreshing and long.
