Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Pinot Noir from Merry Edwards was extremely well-received by our mini-tasting group. It opens with a black cherry bouquet with a hint of cola. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced, dense and juicy. The flavor profile is a black cherry-cola with notes of red currant and black plum. We also detected hints of toasted oak and black tea. The finish is dry and its flavors linger nicely. Our group thought this Pinot would pair well with tuna sushi or beef bourguignon Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The trademark aroma of this luscious Pinot greets us with a profuse melange of deep, dark fruit highlighted with rich cocoa powder and chocolate. Blackberry preserves, cassis and dark cherry are complemented with black tea, a bit of tar and a hint of roses. Toasty Francois Freres oak is another signature as this wine chose this cooperage upon its first christening in barrel in 2004. The effect is a pronounced savory aspect of charcuterie and bacon. A showy, expressive Pinot, it has broad, succulent tannins and good acid balance. Cocoa resurfaces and lingers on the finish. This is a powerhouse wine that will release its energy over a long lifetime in bottle. Enjoy this Pinot with Merry's crispy oven baked chicken with sweet potatoes.
