Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Pinot Noir from Merry Edwards was well received by our tasters. It opens with a fragrant and appealing black currant and black cherry bouquet with a hint of licorice. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced and juicy. The flavor profile is black cherry and oak blend with nicely integrated minerality. We also detected some hints of black pepper and cardamom seed. The finish is dry and its flavors and mild tannins linger and last for quite a while. I would pair this sturdy Pinot with thin sliced beef brisket. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: The depth of color in this 2015 vintage portends an opulent Pinot, packed with dark brambleberry fruit, black cherry and laced with highly perfumed fraise du bois, grown on the forest floor. Scents of David Austin blood-red roses, creamy milk chocolate and warm spices − nutmeg and cardamom – complete its intense and unrestrained aroma. The palate is velvety smooth following an enticing, generous entry. Lithe and muscular, this Pinot’s texture is well-proportioned and the acidity is bright and balanced. The tannins are refined and elegant yet lavish, creating a full, sustained finish. Delicious, lingering impressions are of savory mushrooms, caramel, cassis and lovely toasty oak. The complete, delectable profile fine-tunes this wine for a long, successful future.
