Wine Review: This dark red colored Pinot Noir from Merry Edwards opens with a very attractive mild red currant bouquet with a hint of red raspberry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced and very juicy. The flavor profile is a mild plum with notes of gentle oak and faint minerality. I also detected hints of pomegranate and pepper towards the end. The finish is dry and its mild tannins show some finesse as they fade away. This offering is not nearly as big as many of the Merry Edwards Pinots. That said, it would pair nicely with venison stew. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: The beautiful 2014 growing season produced a lovely wine, fragrant with cherry blossoms, cherry cola, fresh Queen Anne and juicy Rainier cherries, as well as cordial cherries – a virtual symphony of cerise. Side notes of Tizana tea, red raspberry and currants join the chorus, adding layers of depth and complexity. Dark, subtle oak frames the luscious fruit with cardamom, vanilla bean, caramel and mocha. A generous, sweet complement of 80 percent new French oak amplifies the underlying grape tannins, creating soft full tannins across the entire palate.
