Wine Review: This opaque and very dark ruby colored Pinot Noir from Merry Edwards opens with a black currant bouquet with a hint of old oak and boysenberry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, slightly acid, mouthwatering and juicy. The flavor profile is a ripe plum with notes of black currant and old oak. I also detected some hints of black pepper and black raspberry. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins show some nice length. This Pinot would pair well with barbecue braised short ribs. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: This seven-vineyard melange shows off the wonderfully expressive persona of our home region- the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County. 2010 was a year low in yield but superb in quality. The intensity of this wine reveals itself first in its brooding, deep fruit aroma. Packed with dark Bing cherry, juicy red raspberry and brambleberry, its largess unfolds with each aerating swirl of the glass. Nuances of violet and ripe pomegranate fill out the expansive profile along with savory accents of toffee, coffee and toasty oak. This lively Pinot has the tannin structure and great acid balance so necessary for long-term aging. Absolutely yummy! Lamb Burgers is the perfect complement to this delectable Pinot.
