Wine Review: This opaque and deep purple colored Pinot from Merry Edwards received varied scores from the panel. In the end the overall scored landed on 90 points. It opens with fragrant and inviting black cherry and pomegranate bouquet with hints of earth and vanilla. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, well balanced, and very rich for a Pinot. The flavor profile is an impressive plum with notes of red currant and a hint of oak and cranberry. The finish is dry and its dusty tannins linger for quite a while. The panel felt this was a Pinot that would be a good match with a ribeye or barbecue ribs. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: This Klopp Ranch is bold, forward and appealing. When I tasted a glass recently, it brought back memories of my days at Mount Eden Vineyard in the 1970s. The best Pinots I made there had a unique aroma of black pepper. This distinctive characteristic is clearly present in the 2009 vintage. Add to this loads of dark hedgerow fruit, chocolate, anise and sweet toasty oak. It's smooth on the entry with plenty of firm tannins and excellent length, making it a serious candidate for long term aging.
