Wine Review: This very dark ruby colored Pinot from Merry Edwards was very different from her other single estate offerings. This one did not have as much of a fruit forward style. Instead it opens with an oak influenced black cherry bouquet with additional notes of forest floor and basil. On the palate, the wine is medium bodied, balanced, lush, and silky. The flavor profile is a mild strawberry with a good dose of integrated oak. Some black cherry and black pepper were detected as well. The finish is dry and its dusty tannins are rather lengthy. This wine could benefit from a little more time in the cellar. I suspect it will come together very nicely in a year or two. In the meantime, if you can't resist, plan for prime rib or braised short ribs. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: On first impression, this wine reveals an intensely fragrant aroma, rich with blueberry, rose petals and dried violets. Swirl the glass and you will find mouthwatering layers of licorice, cola and sassafras that continue to unfold, adding even more to its complexity. Crushed fruit teases and broadens the palate with its sun-dried sweetness. The tannins are firm, while the finish is finely tuned, smooth and creamy with a hint of jasmine tea. Meredith Estate is classically designed for long-term aging; the serious collector will be amply rewarded for his patience. This Pinot always pairs nicely with lamb; try thick chops grilled with garden fresh eggplant and corn on the cob.
