Wine Review: This dark ruby colored kitchen sink blend from McPrice Myers opens with a black raspberry and fig bouquet with hints of black plum and oak. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The flavor profile is an oak influenced blackberry and stewed black plum blend with notes of stony minerality and black olive. I also detected hints of black pepper, fig, and cured beef. The finish is dry, and its pronounced acidity, flavors, and dusty tannins linger and last for quite some time. This very good value red blend would pair well with a grilled balsamic-and-garlic flank steak. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: High on the Hog is a wine you can drink for any occasion. Around the holiday dinner table in the Myers house, my grandmother would always look proudly around at her family all gathered round the dishes piled high with food, and say, "we are really living high on the hog, aren’t we?" This blend is in memory of Grandma and her joy at seeing the family doing well. The 2020 features macerated cherries, strawberry reduction, sweet spice, spring flowers, plum tart, melted licorice, and fresh herbs. The palate has an exuberant, sweet approach, with a long, mineral-laced finish. Enjoy with a smoked brisket with red wine reduction barbecue sauce.
