Wine Review: This inky purple Primitivo Salento-driven red wine from Puglia opens with aromas of turned earth and wild mushroom with hints of barnyard and pencil shavings. There is a rush of juicy red raspberry and other red fruit flavors on entry to the palate, followed by dark chocolate and peppercorn. Transcending an old-world style, there is a distinct limestone minerality balanced by moderate oak and acidity and well-managed tannins. The wine has a great deal of complexity and character and the layers of flavors continue to build, leading to a durable and warm finish. This would pair well with a variety of savory foods and we appreciated it with a dish of veal agnolotti and shaved black truffle. – Jeoff

Winemaker Notes: Deep and dull ruby red. The nose reveals full, intense aromas reminiscent of plums and red fruit jam with sweet spicy notes. A wine with considerable body, the palate is enveloping, warm and soft and expresses very ripe fruit, backed by a pleasurable backbone of sweet tannins.
