Wine Review: This deep ruby colored Zinfandel based wine from Marietta Cellars opens with a fragrant brambleberry bouquet with hints of black cherry, moist pipe tobacco, and oak. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with very bright acidity. The mouthfeel is round, juicy, zesty and zinny. The flavor profile is a craisin and nutmeg blend with notes of black raspberry, mocha, and black licorice. I also detected some hints of cinnamon tea and graphite. The finish is dry and flavors and acidity drift away nicely. This wine does benefit from a little aeration as the air pulls it all together. I would pair it with fall off the bone-dry rub baby back ribs. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: "Notes of white pepper and sage, enliven the core of pomegranate, cranberry and orange zest in this bright, lively Zinfandel. Breadth and darkness come through as briar patch and tobacco leaf, with flint and wet stone adding complexity. Grippy and clean on the palate, with chalk and almond underpinning the ripe strawberry, this is not your typical Zinfandel from California. Dark chocolate and crushed mint lead into drying/textured tannins for a long finish." - Scot Bilbro, Winemaker
