Wine Review: This dark red colored Pinot Noir from Maggy Hawk was one of the top finishers in our first big blind tasting. It opens with a fragrant and very appealing strawberry licorice like bouquet with a hint of tea leaves and clove. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied and balanced. The flavor profile is a very tasty plum with nicely integrated mild minerality and subtle oak. The panel also detected some black cherry and menthol as well. The finish is dry and its flavors drift away nicely. The panel suggested that this fine Pinot would pair quite nicely with cherry amaretto chicken or pork roast with a black cherry sauce. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: The Hawkster shows off in this vintage, offering layers of structure while remaining deep, dark, almost brooding. Aromas of clove, espresso, and sandalwood give way to brambly flavors trending to darker fruits like black cherry, with notes of cocoa and cinnamon. While bolder in alcohol than its siblings, it remains elegant and balanced, suggesting it will continue to evolve and surprise over the next several years.
