Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Merlot from the Napa Valley opens with a mild blackberry and plum bouquet with a hint of violet. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with medium acidity. It is balanced and very fruit forward. The flavor profile is stewed red plum and black cherry blend with notes of oak and blackberry. I also detected hints of strawberry licorice and a touch of black coffee in the aftertaste. The finish is dry and its fruit flavors and gentle acidity and well-managed fine tannins drift away nicely. I would pair this Merlot with a smoked duck crostini with raspberry preserves. Enjoy – Ken
