Wine Review: This deep ruby colored Syrah from Washington state is a very good value. It opens with a moist pipe tobacco and black cherry bouquet with hints of wet stone and dark chocolate. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is rounded and very bright. The flavor profile is a blueberry and dark chocolate blend with notes of stony minerality and black currant. I also detected hints of hints of clove, anise, and cinnamon. The finish is dry and its tannins build-up and stick around for quite some time. There is also a touch of residual heat. This big boy Syrah is powerful out of the gate. I would decant it as it settles down nicely and then pair it with a well-marbled cowboy ribeye steak with good friends that like bold wines. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Named after the Wahluke Slope, LUKE Syrah is a full-bodied red packed with profound color, concentration of flavors and velvet elegance. The wine opens up rich and bold, suggesting white pepper, licorice, dark chocolate, and spice followed by blackberry, blueberry, and candied fruits. A lengthy finish highlights the ripeness and complexity of the wine.
