Wine Review: Barbaresco, the lesser-known red wines from Piedmont, is the queen to Barolo. It is usually lighter in profile, is lower in alcohol, and with grainier tannins. The Luca Bosio Barbaresco sticks to its roots. This wine is layered with earthy tones like graphite, limestone, oregano, and dried cherries right out of the glass. The palate follows suit with the nose with graphite dried herbs and fruits but has the slightest touch of sweet baking spices which resembles a stone-oven baked strawberry and rhubarb pie. The finish is this fight between acid and grainy tannins, which indicates this wine is meant for the long haul. Given that 2016 was a great year and the composition of this wine, this could easily cellar for another 10-15 years without a bump. This would pair well with grilled lamb or boar. – Nicolay
Winemaker Notes: Our Barbaresco is an elegant and well-defined wine. It displays hints of sweet tobacco, leather and spice coexisting with the essence of freshness and jam. Rich and complex, well-balanced, tannic but harmonious. Pure-bred and expressive. Excellent with meats and matured cheeses.
