Wine Review: This opaque and onyx colored Mencia based red wine from Spain opens with musty leather and black currant bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, nicely balanced and smooth. The flavor profile is a tasty black currant with notes of black tea and a hint of gentle old oak. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins are dusty and linger for some time after the wine is gone. This impressive Mencia would pair well with a NY strip steak. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: From an ancient and locally legendary single vineyard plot, includes a tiny percentage of indigenous vitis vinifera varieties that predate the Mencia, incorporated into the blend for added complexity. The old vines, meticulously rehabilitated following long abandonment, produce an exceptional wine that represents the quintessence of Bierzo.
