Wine Review: The dark garnet colored Carménère from Los Vascos opens with a fragrant bell pepper and black olive bouquet with hints of black plum. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, smooth and polished. The flavor profile a black olive and oak blend with notes of black plum, black tea and red bell pepper. I also detected hints of graphite and black licorice. The finish is dry and its very dusty tannins stick around for a very long time. I would decant this Carménère before pairing it with rustic meals like Tuscan beef and black pepper stew or brisket burnt ends. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: A Carmenère with great complexity on the nose, a young but balanced palate and a pleasant finish. It is a deep color with a touch of ruby. On the nose, the wine is balanced and complex with several levels of aromas: black fruits such as blackberries or ripe plums, toasted notes of nutmeg, graphite and the classic roasted red pepper typical of the variety.
