Wine Review: This gold colored Chardonnay from Lafond was the winner of our recent mid-tier blind Chardonnay tasting. It opens with a musty oak bouquet with hints of pear, waffle cone and almond brittle. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with zesty acidity. The flavor profile is a ripe pear and vanilla oak blend with notes of minerality, nutmeg and butter. We also detected some hints of lemon curd. The finish was dry and its flavors lingered nicely. The Panel described this Chard as complete. They suggested pairing it with king crab legs or broiled scallops. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: The 2017 Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay is a golden hay color with mild aromas of lemon zest, cantaloupe, and jasmine. Flavors of crisp pear, crushed gravel, and almond complete the palate. This bright Chardonnay pairs well with shrimp scampi or fish tacos. It is 100% barrel fermented and undergoes 100% malolactic fermentation.
