Wine Review: I think I have only tried a handful of Pinot Meunier’s and this one is the best so far. This one is a very light shade of red. Almost, dark pink. It opens with a mild strawberry and faint cherry bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, slightly acidic and mouthwatering. The flavor profile is a tasty strawberry and gentle plum blend with a hint of red raspberry jam. The finish is dry and delicate. This wine reminds me of a very elegant Pinot Noir. It is food friendly and quite quaffable. It will not last long. I would serve it with fresh sliced Norwegian salmon. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The 2012 Pinot Meunier, Sarlee's Vineyard exhibits wonderfully intense plummy fruit, rose petal, and spiciness in the nose. In the mouth, red fruits of cherry and plum are accented by great acidity which leads the flavors and mouthfeel to a very long conclusion. This wine is reminiscent of Pinot Noir we have made from this appellation, the difference being a more rustic sensibility to it…Pinot Noir’s country country cousin. After a bad crop left us with no fruit in 2011, we were able to acquire about 12 tons of Pinot Meunier from the famed Saralee's Vineyard in the Russian River Valley appellation. With over 800 cases produced, La Rochelle is one of the largest still-wine producers of Pinot Meunier in the country. You will be able to find our 2012 offering at the Winery and at finer restaurants and wine shops around the country. Because of the complexity of aroma and structure of this wine, we recommend serving at 55F.
