Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Pinot Noir from the Sleepy Hollow Vineyard opens with a mild black raspberry bouquet with a hint of boysenberry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, slightly acidic and savory. The flavor profile is a delicious blueberry and boysenberry blend with notes of black plum. I also detected hints of mild old oak and a touch of red beet. The finish is dry and its flavors mild tannins drift away nicely. This Pinot is very good is very food friendly and it would pair well with a thyme seasoned pork tenderloin. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Typically this vineyard site produces one of the more dark-fruited, aromatically complex wines we make from the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation. Replete with the aromas of black cherry, raspberry, cola nut, soy sauce, pine, and truffle, the exotic aromatic mix translates seamlessly to the flavor profile. In the mouth, this wine is characterized by black-fruit flavors, a generous mid-palate viscosity, and nicely defined finishing tannins. In short, we find a dark earthy version of Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir. Drinkable upon release, this wine will benefit by 12 months in bottle before consumption, and should age beautifully for 5-10 years. Pair with duck, pork, chicken, salmon, and flavor fully-sauced pasta dishes.
