Wine Review: Sometimes, you just find a diamond in the box. That was the case, when I pulled this sample from the box of Chard samples. I have never heard of La Follette, prior to trying this wine. Wow, we think you will be impressed. We were. This Chard is dark yellow colored and opens with an attractive spiced pear bouquet with a hint of lemon. On the palate, this wine is full bodied and smooth with just a hint of crispy acidity. The flavor profile is a very tasty spicy pear with notes of oak and butterscotch. The finish is dry, a touch tingly, and gentle toasty oak notes linger once the wine is gone. This wine would pair very well with wild mushroom tortellini smothered in cream sauce. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: The Sangiacomo Chardonnay is our nod to white Burgundy, made in an intentionally reductive style. Its slightly green hue and bright acidity speak to its cool climate origins. The wine shows delicate floral aromas juxtaposed with more sauvage, visceral components. Pungent white freesia, vanilla bean, Asian pear and a touch of anise spice and musk aromatics, with a smooth entry and a rich, textured mouthfeel. With time in the glass, notes of caramel, fried plantain, narcissus and the pleasing fruitiness of the Old Wente clone emerge, though the acids persist long into the finish.
