Wine Review: This dark red colored Merlot based Meritage from King Family Vineyards in Virginia is very good. It opens with a cedar and black cherry bouquet with hints of black currant. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, smooth, and fresh. The flavor profile is a Kirsch, black tea, and blueberry blend with notes of cedar. I also detected hints of black licorice. The finish is dry, and its dusty tannins, flavors and acidity are nicely sustained. I would pair this red blend with braised short ribs. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Developing aromas of dried herbs, tobacco leaf, dark fruits, & oak spice. On the palate, a lively acidity balances the wine's willowy but firm tannins. Rich concentration and a long finish suggest that this wine will continue to improve with additional time in the cellar.
