Wine Review: This dark garnet-colored Pinotage from Kanonkop opens with a black raspberry and fig bouquet with hints of cured meat and plum. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, and smooth. The flavor profile is a black raspberry and graphite blend with notes of cedar and cured meat. I also detected hints of black licorice, fig, and black plum. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and dusty tannins stick around for a bit. I would pair this very good rustic styled Pinotage with a bison burger.

Winemaker Notes: Bright purple red in color. A bold, enticing nose of cherries, red and black plums, strawberry coulis, vanilla, cinnamon, and allspice. The palate is packed with juicy raspberries, plums, cranberries, milk chocolate, cedar, and layers of baking spices. Medium bodied with refreshing, balanced acidity, fine grained tannins, and a long satisfying finish.
