Wine Review: This midnight purple colored Pinotage from South Africa opens with a black cherry, dark chocolate, and fig bouquet with hints of oak, black licorice, smoked meat, and nutmeg. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, concentrated, complex, and savory. The flavor profile is black plum and blackberry blend with notes of tobacco, stony minerality, and oak. I also detected hints of black cherry, black licorice, and a touch of mint. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and dusty tannins stick around for quite some time. I would pair this Pinotage with Jiko's wild boar tenderloin. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Opaque purple red color. Bold plums, blackberries, mulberries, rich vanilla, layers of smoke, and roasted nut the nose. Followed by a palate packed with plums, cherries, black figs, pomegranate, dark chocolate, blackberries and spicy oak, The beautifully integrated plush, creamy tannins teams with satisfying acidity resulting in a wonderfully balanced wine with and a long finish, promising a great maturation potential. Pair with spicy Asian-style dishes, aromatic curries, venison meat, or with duck.
