Wine Review: This deep purple colored Pinotage from Kanonkop is very good. It opens with a fig and roasted meat bouquet with hints of blackberry jam and tar in the background. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, fruit forward and juicy. The flavor profile is a mild cedar influenced vanilla-cola and red plum blend with notes of cured meat, clove, star anise, fig and cardamom. The finish is dry and its flavors and moderate tannins show nice length. This Pinotage from Stellenbosch would pair very nicely with a beef bourguignon. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: The nose is beautifully aromatic, with scented aromas of red currants, macerated cherries, and cinnamon spice. The palate displays a silky tannin structure, backed by a fine seam of acidity. Subtle vanilla undertones from the integrated oak profile are juxtaposed against a fruit explosion of wild bramble, plums, and black berries. An elegant wine of intense purple hues, it lingers at the finish with juicy, dark plums flavors.
