Wine Review: This dark red colored Pinotage from Kanonkop opens with a musty rubber, black cherry and smoky oak. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, juicy and fruit forward. The flavor profile is a tasty cherry and strawberry blend with notes of cedar plank influence. While not as complex as past vintages, it is still very good. The finish is dry and its flavors and moderate dusty tannins sticky around for quite a while. This Pinotage would pair well with duck confit. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Crafted from the fruit of some of South Africa’s oldest Pinotage vines this wine is bright ruby red. It is a textbook Stellenbosch Pinotage with aromatic and spicy aromas of mulberry, raspberry and cinnamon. Muscular, well integrated tannins add great structure. Flavors of bramble, violets, plums and blackberries are balanced by scented new oak. An elegant wine with savory notes on the lengthy finish, and a lifting underlying freshness, it is accessible now, but will continue to develop for 10-15 years if cellared properly.
