Wine Review: This very dark ruby colored from South Africa opens with a strawberry licorice and oak bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, nicely balanced and a little juicy. The flavor profile is a very tasty oak influenced black cherry with notes of fig and mild minerality. I also detected a hint of black tea in the aftertaste. The finish is dry and its flavors and tannins linger and last for quite a while. This impressive Pinotage would pair well with a New York strip steak. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Crafted from the fruit of some of South Africa’s oldest Pinotage vines, this benchmark bottling is a true Cape classic! Alluringly complex and distinctive, it boasts bold flavors of plum and red berries with notes of dark chocolate, vanilla and aromatic spice. The 2015 vintage offers a good complexity with layered flavors that will continue to develop and integrate for years to come.
