Wine Review: Kanonkop is consistently one of the best Pinotage producers in the world. They consistently over deliver and the 2009 vintage does it again. This dark ruby colored Pinotage opens with a mild smoky oak and gentle black raspberry bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, very well balanced and juicy. The flavor profile is an impressive smoky oak infused black cherry and plum blend. There is a touch of black pepper mixed in as well. The finish is dry and its fine smoky tannins drift away nicely. This wine would pair well with slow cooked beef brisket. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Crafted from the fruit of some of South Africa's oldest Pinotage vines, this benchmark bottling is a true Cape classic! Alluringly complex and distinctive, it boasts juicy layers of red and black berries, cassis and plum intertwined with hints of banana and mocha with a smoky, minerally undercurrent. This wine’s maturation potential is up to 15-20 years. Food Suggestion: Red meat or spicy Asian style dishes.
